Tempe is a city of approximately 175,000 residents that is located just southeast of Phoenix, the capital of Arizona. Home to Arizona State University, Tempe bordered by the cities of Phoenix, Scottsdale, Chandler, and Mesa. The bedroom community is also home to the headquarters of the airline, US Airways.
Tempe is a diverse community with residential options suited to buyers in most price ranges. From apartments near the campus of Arizona State University to single-family homes more suitable for families and larger estate properties, Tempe has it all. Generally speaking, Tempe is an affordable community, with larger single-family homes and high-rise condominiums listing in the mid- to high-$500,000 range. Much of the growth in the Tempe area occurred in the 1980s, so homes in the area are newer and many of the neighborhoods have a clean, master-planned feel.
Tempe Weather and Geography
Tempe, as with most of Arizona, enjoys warm, dry summers and mild, comfortable winter months. The balmy winters make Tempe and the surround cities popular with so-called “Snow Birds,” residents of cold, northern regions of the United States who own winter homes in the city. With year-round sunshine and nearby mountain peaks, outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and hunting are popular with Tempe residents.
With 161,719 people, Tempe is the 8th most populated city in the state of Arizona out of 451 cities. But watch out, Tempe, because Peoria with 154,065 people and Surprise with 117,517 people are right behind you.
The median age for Tempe residents is 28.1 years young.
